The Second Innings of Dr. Manmohan Singh: Astro Analysis
After the UPA government won the 2009 general elections, Dr. Manmohan Singh was reappointed as the Prime Minister of India on May 22, 2009, making him the first Indian Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after completing a full five-year term.
The UPA government was sworn on 22nd May 2009 at 06:30 PM in the Ashoka Hall of Rastrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. The lagna chosen was Scorpio. Being a fixed sign, it represents stable government at the centre. Saturn in the 10th house indicates that the new government means business. It will push development agenda further.
The placement of Jupiter in the 4th house and aspect of Saturn on the 4th house (own house) indicates that the government at the centre is stable and will last its full term.
However, the placement of retrograde Mercury in the 7th house indicates that allies will keep on posing problems for the Government by making irrational demands. Keeping the flock together will be the biggest work for congress.
The placement of Ketu in the 9th house indicates that foreign policy will be the main area of focus for the government till September 2010. The problems emerging in foreign lands relating to economic, political or social problems of ethnic Indians will continue to affect the country.
Challenges before Manmohan Singh:-
Health:
Manmohan Singh has a history of heart ailment and underwent coronary bypass surgery in 1990 and angioplasty in 2004. Singh also underwent a second bypass surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 24 January 2009. Health can be a concern for him in the present tenure as the Prime Minister of India. Astrologically, placement of Moon in the sixth house is not very good for the health prospects of the Head of state in astrology.
Security Threats and Neighborhood Environment:
Apart from the threats from the Western front especially from Jihadi terrorists, India also faces threats from China. The Chinese have constructed ports in Kyauk Phyu in Burma, Hambantota in Sri Lanka and Gwadar in Pakistan which can be easily converted into naval bases. Saturn’s transit in Leo rashi will keep security personnel always on toes. The Maoists have already spread their influence in the north in Nepal and Tamil problem is still alive in the south in Sri Lanka. With 78 member ministry, the present Government is expected to keep an eye on these matters and selection of S.M. Krishna, Shashi Tharur and Parmeeta Kaur for this job looks good.
Economic Problems and Creation of New jobs:
The world is passing through tough economic patch. Corporates are making losses. Economic slowdown syndrome is all pervasive. There are job cuts in all major sectors in the world. India today is directly affected by the problems of the west. The retrogression of 11th lord Mercury indicates that government has to spend a lot to help the economy come out of problems. There shall be depletion in the foreign exchange reserve in the country. There will be a decline in the revenue of the government as well. Fiscal problems will be a big concern. Since he is the architect of liberalized economy, the pace of growth will be good despite all odds. The Mahadasa of Sun will start in the horoscope of India from 12th September 2009. Hence, Government will have to take initiative to create new jobs. They cannot depend on private sector alone to create more jobs.
The UPA government under the leadership of Manmohan Singh is likely to complete its full term. However, if the health of Manmohan Singh deteriorates, he may step down as Prime Minister of the country.

Chiranjeevi and Vijaykanth- Electoral Fortunes: Astro Analysis
Chiranjeevi and Vijaykanth- Electoral Fortunes: Astro Analysis
Chiranjeevi founded Praja Rajyam as a regional political party in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India on August 26, 2008.
The party contested all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh and lost all of them. It won in 18 of 294 assembly seats. The party leader, Chiranjeevi contested two assembly seats Tirupathi and Palacole in his native West Godavari district, and lost the Palacole election. It polled 15 % votes and is believed to have affected the victory chances of TDP in many seats. It came second in 31 assembly seats and three Lok Sabha seats.
Chiranjeevi was born on 22nd August 1955 at 10:10 AM in Narsapur. In Chiranjeevi’s horoscope Libra is the rising Lagna, Vedic Sun sign is Leo and Moon sign is Virgo. The birth Nakshatra is Chitra 2nd pada. There is formation of Hamsha yoga (exalted Jupiter in Kendra) and Sasa yoga (exalted Saturn in Lagna). Both, these yogas are “Panch Mahapurusha yoga” meaning yogas which make a person dignified. However, Saturn and Jupiter both are getting debilitated (weak) in Navamsha chart. Hence, the promise of major political gains was diluted.
The 7th lord in Chiranjeevi’s horoscope is Mars that happens to be placed with the Lagna lord Venus in the house of gains (11th house). Hence, Praja Rajyam party under his leadership can grow up as a more dominating party after June 2012 when the Mahadasa of Mercury starts in the horoscope of Chiranjeevi. However, Chiranjeevi should learn the art of alliance to have a say in the next assembly election. His horoscope suggests gains from alliances.
Vijaykanth was born on 25th August 1952 in Madurai. The time of birth is not available. Hence, assessment has been made from natal Moon. In his horoscope the Sun sign is Leo, Moon sign is Virgo and birth Nakshatra is Chitra 2nd pada.
Vijaykanth formed Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). He formally announced party formation on September 14, 2005 at Madurai. The party head office is in Koyambedu, Chennai.
This party contested all 234 seats in the state elections in May 2006 with Vijayakanth contesting in Vridhachalam. The party polled almost 3 million votes which were about 10% of the total votes cast. This was surprisingly a very good show for a new party. However, the total votes did not translate into assembly seats. All the candidates of the DMDK with the exception of Mr.Vijaykanth lost the elections in 2006.
DMDK contested all 39 seats independently in Tamil Nadu in the 15th Lok Sabha election in 2009 and lost all of them. The party, however, made strong inroads in the heartland of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). The party polled 30.52 lakh votes of the total of 3.02 crore valid votes polled in the state representing roughly a vote share of 10.09 %.
Though his party did not win any seat, it appears to have made the difference between margin of victory or loss in case of many candidates. Well established party PMK has been seriously affected.
Here, the point to be noted is that Sun sign, Moon sign and birth Nakshatra of both Chiranjeevi and Vijaykanth are same. However, the difference is that there are rajya yogas and Panch Mahapurusha yoga’s in the horoscope of Chiranjeevi that is giving him and edge over Vijaykanth.
The seventh lord from Moon in case of Vijaykanth is Jupiter that happens to be placed in the 8th house. This indicates that his party is not able to forge ahead because of lack of alliances. However, DMDK will be able to do well if Vijaykanth is able to bring in Rajnikanth in his party. If either the AIADMK or DMK lose hold in the state, he will be a direct beneficiary.

Mahinda Rajapaksha and Terror Free Sri Lanka: Astro Analysis
Mahinda Rajapaksha and Terror Free Sri Lanka: Astro Analysis
Mahinda Rajapaksa will be known in history as a president who brought an end to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and its chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Soon after the reports of Sri Lankan army’s win over LTTE Sri Lanka's president declared his country "liberated from separatist terror" on Tuesday. The state television broadcasted images of the Tamil Tiger rebel leader's body after it was recovered from the battlefield.
But in his victory address to parliament, President Mahinda Rajapaksa appeared to reach out to the minority Tamils, for whom the rebels had said they were trying to carve out a homeland. He also seemed to promise a power-sharing agreement with them.
"Our intention was to save the Tamil people from the cruel grip of the (rebels). We all must now live as equals in this free country," he said, briefly speaking in the Tamil language.
Mahinda Rajapaksa was born on 18th November 1945 in Weeraketiya. Moon was placed in Aries rashi and birth Nakshatra was Ashvini. Time of birth is not very certain, hence astrological analysis has been done from natal Moon.
Venus is placed in the 7th house in own sign in the horoscope indicating that his wife will be beautiful. Shiranthi Wickremesinghe, his wife was Miss Sri Lanka in 1978 and also represented Sri Lanka at the Miss World Contest. This justifies our analysis from Moon.
The most important combination that draws my attention is placement of Rahu in the 3rd house from Moon. This placement means that the president is courageous and a tough decision maker.
Mars and Saturn combination in the 4th house indicates the strong resolve to fight militancy. However, this conjunction also indicates that there can be safety concerns for him. Mars and Saturn combination in 4th house does give danger from conveyance.
Aries rashi gives him a strong temperament and qualities of commander in chief. He knows that terror can be countered not by talks but by strong military action. As per numerology also the date of birth 1+8 adds up to 9 which represent Mars.
His date of birth add up to 1+8+1+1+1+9+4+5 = 30 which adds up to 3+0= 3 which represents Jupiter; hence in future he will prove to be a sound administrator as well. In all likelihood he would work for the betterment and honor of the Tamilian immigrants in Sri Lanka.
The challenges before Mahinda Rajapaksa will be immense in times to come. The entire world will watch out how the president will win the confidence of Tamilians of Sri Lanka. Because, if he fails to do so, there can be birth of yet another rebel in Sri Lanka.
Military action can stop the menace of rebellion only for sometime. However, it is very important for him to address the issues which saw the rise of Velupillai Prabhakaran and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The issues are discrimination with Tamils, lack of education and employment for them and their treatment as inferior citizens.
The Government of India is extending financial support for rehabilitation of Tamils in war affected areas. Hope India and Sri Lanka work together for betterment of Tamilians in Sri Lanka. Mahinda Rajapaksa became Member of Parliament at the tender age of 24 years and he has enough experience to understand the main issue behind the Tamil problem.

Taliban- Potential threat or blessing in disguise?: Astro Analysis
Taliban- Potential threat or blessing in disguise?: Astro Analysis
South Asia comprises of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives out of which India and Pakistan have the most important and dominant presence. The recent transits of planets have triggered many changes in the political arena of all these countries. Sri Lanka is crushing the LTTE causing a concern in India as well. Pakistan is passing through one of the worst offensive from Taliban and they are fighting a war to survive.
The bottom line is that even though boundaries were made to separate two nations, the regional base and common roots between these neighboring counties affect the polity in these nations. Imposition of Jazia Tax on Sikh community in Taliban controlled areas in Pakistan made India appeal to the Government of Pakistan to interfere in this matter. Tamilian issue in Sri Lanka has been one of the key election issues in Tamil Nadu politics.
I want to emphasize that even though nations are separated by their geographical boundaries, the problems originating from a common root can be solved only through mutual negotiations. No problem in today’s world can be left isolated. Hence, the concern in Pakistan directly affects India as well.
Transit of Saturn in Leo rashi sets new trend. The aspect of Jupiter from 3rd May 2009 on Saturn indicates that the politics of hate has to be substituted by politics of tolerance and cooperation. What is relevant here is that US President Mr. Barack Obama has also said to Pakistan President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari that India is not a threat to Pakistan. The real threat to Pakistan is Taliban.
If statements of Mr. Asif Ali Zardari have to be believed, this will perhaps be the first occasion when Pakistan will seek cooperation both from USA and India for combating the menace of Taliban. Mr. Zardari has also said that after the election and formation of a new government, he will seek betterment of economic ties with India.
Rahu and Ketu axis is afflicting natal moon and 3rd house in India’s horoscope. The 4th lord Sun is also afflicted in transit. The result of this transit is that there shall be attempts of infiltration from Indian border. Terrorists can make attempts to get into the country and create disturbance.
Simultaneously, Rahu and Ketu transit from 4th house in Pakistan’s horoscope indicates that militants are posing a threat to the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.
Hence, India and Pakistan both make a perfect team to settle these issues together and they may combat militancy, poverty and other problems affecting their growth. Mutual hatred will not fulfill the needs of the rapidly growing population of these two countries. The welfare of the people in both of them depends on economic growth.
Taliban issue is creating a perfect platform from where both the countries can work together for a better tomorrow. Hence, Taliban can prove to be a blessing in disguise and opening up of a new chapter in India - Pakistan relationship.

Powerful women in Indian Politics: Astro Analysis
Powerful women in Indian Politics: Astro Analysis
Indian politics cannot be complete without the role of females in the present scenario. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi has been considered as the most powerful prime minister that India has ever produced.
Right now, in India there are three powerful women leaders who hold the key to any government formation. They are also the most powerful leaders in their political outfits.
Mrs Sonia Gandhi (Congress President)
She needs no introduction in political arena. She is the daughter in law of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi and wife of Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi who have remained central to Congress Governments. After the death of her husband she remained away from politics for many years. Thereafter, because of bad performance of congress in the elections she accepted the post of party president and helped congress reorganize itself. She has now become the most powerful leader of the party and the nation. The opposition alleges that the present congress government works under her commands.
In her horoscope Cancer is the sign rising in the lagna. Cancer Lagna is the lagna of royalty. Her horoscope makes her a natural leader. Her Moon sign is Gemini and Vedic Sun sign is Scorpio. The dasa running right now is of Mercury / Jupiter till 17th December 2009. Jupiter is involved in rajya yoga indicating that the period right now is favorable for her. Because she is the president of the Indian National Congress, the party will get more seats in the ongoing election. The Mahadasa running right now is of Mercury that happens to be placed in the 5th house and the 5th house signifies children. She rejected the Prime Ministers post but groomed her children well in politics. In future both her children will play more active role in Indian Politics and she will remain relevant as a great leader.
Ms. J. Jayalalitha (AIDMK)
She was a famous film star before entering into politics. She is the incumbent general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) in the state of Tamil Nadu. She is popularly called Amma (mother) and Puratchi Thalaivi (Revolutionary Leader) by her followers.
In her horoscope Gemini was rising in the lagna. Moon is placed in Leo rashi. Sun is placed in Aquarius. The dasa running right now is of Rahu / Sun from 23/02/2009 to 17/01/2010. Sun is the 3rd lord placed in house of fortune indicating that in her leadership AIDMK will give tough fight to Karunanidhi. However, Jayalalitha is passing through the period of Sadhe Saati. There can be health related concerns for her during the current transit of Saturn. Electoral prospects for her are however good.
Ms. Mayawati (Bahujan Samaj Party)
She is the current Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. She has been the Chief Minister during three other short tenures in the past but her party holds absolute majority in the state as of date. She is the highest income-tax payer among all politicians in India paying Rs. 26 crore for year 2007-08. Coming from a dalit family, Mayawati made her way to the seat of chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state of India.
In her horoscope Capricorn was rising in the lagna. Moon is placed in Capricorn rashi. Sun is placed in Capricorn. The dasa running on her right now is of Saturn / Moon from 18/05/2008 to 18/12/2009. Moon is placed in the lagna and is placed well from the Mahadasa lord Saturn. Hence, electoral prospects for her are good. She will win more seats during this election as compared to the last election. However, she is having the transit of Saturn from the 8th house from Lagna and Moon; hence health issues can be there. She is advised to choose her ally carefully. It is likely that her allies may desert her. She will play a very important role in the formation of the next government in India.

Rahu and Film Industry: Astro Analysis
Rahu and Film Industry: Astro Analysis
“Ardhkayam Mahavirya Chandraadityavimardnam
Shinghikagarv Sambhutam Tam Rahum Pranmamyham”
- Rahu Mantra
Rahu and Ketu have been considered as Grahas in Vedic astrology. They have no physical identity. They are only mathematically calculated sensitive points having immense influence on the natives of the earth. Commonly Rahu and Ketu are considered Chaya Graha (shadow planets).
Astrological researches suggest that Rahu plays an important role for people who have connections with film industry and glamour world. But, deeper analysis suggests that well placed Rahu under good influence in relation to other Grahas, make film stars achieve iconic status in film line and electronic media.
However, wrong influence of Rahu (i.e., Rahu under malefic influence vis-à-vis other Grahas) makes people famous for wrong reasons. Well placed Rahu becomes instrumental in elevating the person to higher level who gets recognized for extraordinary talent. Under wrong influence it also links people to scandals and such persons become famous for negative roles in society, media and film line.
I am giving four examples of film artists - two from Hollywood and two from Bollywood to understand the role of Rahu in their respective successes.
Angelina Jolie: She was born when Gemini lagna was rising in the eastern horizon. Rahu in her horoscope is placed in the 6th house (good placement as per classical astrology) indicating success in glamour industry. The most important thing to be noted is that Jupiter aspects Rahu giving it mildness and direction to do good.
Madonna: She was born when Leo was rising in the eastern horizon. In her case Rahu is placed in 3rd house (good placement of Rahu) in the horoscope. This gave her an iconic status in film industry. However, Rahu is afflicting Jupiter and is bereft of any other benefic influence. This was the reason why the personal life of Madonna was full of controversies.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: She was born when Virgo was rising in the eastern horizon. In her horoscope Rahu and Venus are conjunct together in the 4th house. This combination gave her success in film industry as well as bestowed on her an iconic status in film and glamour world. However, Rahu and Moon combination caused failures in love life creating controversies in her personal life.
Rekha: She was born when Sagittarius was rising in the eastern horizon. In the horoscope both Mars and Rahu are placed in the lagna giving her success in glamour and film world. However, the marital life of the native was adversely affected because of this combination. There were personal tragedies in family life because Rahu is bereft of benefic influence.
Though, Rahu helps the native in rising in the world of glamour and films, for happiness in marital life, Rahu can be a serious handicap. Rahu gives independence and glamour, but for happiness in marital life there should be commitment and continuity. This is the reason why the married life of film stars and celebrities remains disturbed generally.
The role of Rahu is very important for success in film and glamour world. Without the grace of Rahu one cannot dream of getting world-wide recognition. Right now Rahu is transiting in Capricorn in conjunction with Jupiter which will help many budding stars achieve celebrity status in the year 2009.

Anatomy of India’s wars with Neighbors: Astro Analysis
Anatomy of India’s wars with Neighbors: Astro Analysis
Vedic astrology at times baffles even a non- believer about the accuracy and depth of analysis reflected from a genuinely drawn horoscope. Complex issues like wars, deaths, famines, floods etc. seem related to horoscope, graha dasa and transits.
Working on the horoscope of Independent India based on the date of Independence of the country i.e., 15th August 1947 at 12:00 AM (midnight), the main parameters of the horoscope are as under.
a) Rahu is placed in the lagna of the horoscope.
b) Mars is placed in the 2nd house.
c) 5 planets are conjunct together in the 3rd house (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Moon)
d) Jupiter is placed in the 6th house.
e) Ketu is placed in the 7th house.
In Vedic astrology 3rd house stands for neighbors, hard-work, courage and co-born. The birth Nakshatra at the time of independence was Pushya. Hence, the first dasa on independent India was that of Saturn. Saturn is combust in the 3rd house by being close to Sun. Sun happens to be the 4th lord of India’s horoscope.
The placement of 4th lord in the 3rd house signified separation of India and Pakistan at the time of birth. Saturn is the planet that generally works for separation in Vedic astrology. The conjunction of Sun and Saturn in the 3rd house indicates that even after separation, the two nations will not live comfortably like good neighbors. Time proved this inherent promise in the horoscope of India to be true.
Rahu in Vedic astrology is called foreigner. The placement of Rahu in the lagna and the placement of lagna lord (Venus) in the 3rd house indicate that India will constantly face troubles from neighbors. The placement of lagna lord in the 3rd house also indicates that India as a nation is aggressive enough to protect its interest.
Indo- Pak war I took place immediately after partition and ended on 31st December 1948. This was the period when Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was born. The dasa running was of Saturn / Saturn from 15/08/1947 to 15/09/1949. Saturn being in 3rd house is in conflict with Sun. Sun happens to be the 4th lord in India’s horoscope and the 4th house relates to land and territory. Hence the reason for war was Kashmir. It became flesh in the thorn for both the neighbors.
India- China war from 20th October 1962 to 20th November 1962 is commonly referred to as Sino- Indian boundary dispute by other countries. This war was also for land and territory. The dasa running was Saturn / Rahu from 24/04/1960 to 02/03/1963. Here, we see that Rahu in lagna is playing foul; China waged war with India in the era of Hindi-Chini- Bhai- Bhai. The war was a rude shock for the country and Pandit Nehru died on account of this.
Indo- Pak war II from 5th August 1965 to 22nd September 1965 was perpetrated by Pakistan, which was armed to the teeth and was waiting for the right time to strike. The aftermath of Sino- Indian war was carefully selected. The dasa running was Saturn / Jupiter from 02/03/1963 to 12/09/1965. This was the 2nd armed aggression by Pakistan for the same cause- Kashmir. The period was the last antardasa in the Mahadasa of Saturn. Jupiter, the antardasa lord was placed in the 6th house (house of enemies).
Indo- Pak war III from 03/12/1971 to 16/12/1971 was related to the birth of Bangladesh. The dasa running was Mercury / Sun from 06/12/1971 to 12/10/1972. This was the first war when India showed its valor and took offensive position on account of increasing influx of refugees coming from the then East Pakistan. This war exhibited the determination of the country for the first time. Sun being the antardasa lord was determined to leave its foot print in the area.
Period of emergency lasted from 25th June 1975 to 21st March 1977. The dasa running was Mercury / Rahu from 09/03/1975 to 27/09/1977. Though, this was not a period of war, the country was slipping into disorder because Late Indira Gandhi as prime minister was challenged by J.P. movement. Rahu in the lagna played a major role in this affair.
Indo- Pak war IV (Kargil war) was not a full- fledged war. It lasted from May 1999 to July 1999. The dasa running was Venus / Rahu from 12/11/1996 to 12/11/1999. Rahu antardasa again caused war related problems in India. There was conflict in Kargil between Indian and Pakistani forces which remained confined in a short area.
Hence, we find that whenever Saturn and Rahu dasa was running on the country, India was attacked by neighbors and India had to defend itself from the attack. When Sun antardasa was running India became offensive to liberate Bangladesh from Pakistan because turmoil in East Pakistan was bad news for India.
The Mahadasa of Sun is going to start on India from 12th September 2009 for 6 years. Does it signify that India will tackle issues with Pakistan and the terrorist organizations by the use of military power? There is strong possibility.

Venus and Organized Militancy: Astro Analysis
Venus and Organized Militancy: Astro Analysis
“Him Kundmrinalabham Daityanam Paramam Gurum
Sharvshastrapravaktaram Bhargavam Pranamamyaham”
- Shukra Mantra
Vedic Astrology recognizes two important Gurus in the world.
Jupiter (Guru):
Jupiter is the Guru of Devtas. His father is Maharishi Angira. Maharishi's wife got the knowledge and procedures of performing the vrata from Sanat Kumars for having a son. She performed the vrata with complete devotion and the Gods were satisfied and a son was born in their house. The son was the lord of wisdom, Jupiter.
Venus (Shukracharya):
Shukracharya is the son of Sage Bhrigu. He is the preceptor of the demons. Shukra was the only one considered worthy of being granted the knowledge of Mrit - Sanjivani vidya by Lord Shiva. This knowledge is supposed to bring back even the dead to life.
Unlike Jupiter, Venus had a tougher role to play because his followers (the demons) had no means of understanding God and their own goodness. Thus, they were not qualified to achieve salvation on their own after death. Hence, Shukracharya had to plan Mukti (salvation) for his disciples. He selected a simple modus-operandi. He undertook the task of guiding his followers to fight against God and get Mukti (salvation) in the process because even if they get killed in the fight, the killer will be God himself.
Shukracharya is the most knowledgeable Guru. He is aware of the deficiencies of his followers and knows how to use these deficiencies for the advantage of demons. Instead of running away from the issues or disowning his followers because of their limited knowledge and quality, he undertook to help his devotees get God’s grace by encouraging them for tapasya (Penance) and getting Vardaan (blessings) from God to become more powerful. It was necessary to fight with Devtas (Demi Gods).
In Hindu Mythology we see that demons like Ravana, Kansh etc got Mukti (salvation) from God himself. However, they got Mukti by instigating war with God (on the advice of Shukracharya).
In 2009 the King of the year is Venus. The ruler will be Shukracharya who will push his disciples towards the path of salvation. We can expect many terrorist attacks in the name of God or holy wars. In Vedic astrology Venus is friendly to Saturn, Rahu and Mercury. Venus is going to extend help to Rahu and Saturn and support rebellion.
Venus is right now exalted (placed in the sign of Jupiter) and Jupiter is right now debilitated (placed in Capricorn). Organized militancy may get a fillip during the reign of Venus in 2009. However, since Shukracharya is a Guru, the common man should remain safe.
In the year 2009, worship of Shukracharya, Shani Dev and recitation of Narayan Kavach will work as a protective shield as per the prescribed principles of Vedic astrology.

Divisional Charts
Divisional Charts
Bowing at the lotus feet of The Lord of the three worlds, the omnipotent and the omnipresent Sri Sai Nath of Shirdi. I would like to share with you (with due humility) my understanding with regard to divisional charts.
Astrologers of maturity have quite often said that a shastri is one who can efficiently use the shodashvarga as given by Mahirishi Parashara. It is further said that a person who uses the birth chart and Navamsha for predictions, is an ardhshastri. Readers using only the birth chart may at some point of time miss the finer picture.
It has been a habit among recent astrologers to completely ignore the divisional charts while giving predictions. The following reasons can be cited for this practice:
a. The time of birth required should be correct for the effective use of such divisional charts. (This is generally difficult to come by, nowadays). b. The calculation and interpretation of such charts require much skill and only a genuine astrologer can justify it.c. This slows the speed of analysis and predicting as lots of data has to be filtered before an astrologer can reach a conclusion. Normally, this does not suit stereotype predictions. Also, those who come for consultations normally have no patience for a detailed analysis.
The secret of reading any divisional chart is to read it as an independent chart and examine the Avashtha of the various Karakas therein. In the absence of the exact time of birth in some exceptional cases, divisional chart can be examined from the birth lagna itself (rashi – tulaya). The applicability of the divisional charts is given below:
1.Birth Chart:This chart is of considerable importance since this is where the analysis of a horoscope starts. All other divisional charts have to show effects subject to the overall promise of the birth chart. In short all divisional charts are supplementary to the birth chart. Even analysis of the birth chart is enough for giving predictions. However, it is always advisable to consult other divisional charts to verify the replication of a promise.
2.Hora:Generally seen for ascertaining the quantum of wealth and the way the person is going to make his earning. Male planets in the Sun's Hora are seen as beneficial while female planets are effective in the Moon's Hora. If maximum planets are in the Sun's Hora it is said that the native earns money as a result of hard work but the quantum of wealth may be very good. If Moons Hora predominates, the earning will be relatively easy. However, this is subject to the Dhan yoga formed in the horoscope.
3.Dreshkona:Generally seen for knowing the happiness and promise from siblings of the native. However, it becomes very important for longevity analysis. As it is normally said that the lord of the 22nd Dreshkona is not good for the general health and longevity of the native. Apart from this, the planets falling in Sarpa Dreshkona and Phasha Dreshkona is not considered good for the native.
4.Chaturthamsha:Generally seen for ascertaining the overall happiness of the native, mainly with regard to the possibility of having immovable assets, particularly property. This chart can also be seen for the possibility of foreign immigration or change of residence. Marriage of a girl child (as it normally makes the girl change her house) can also be read from this horoscope.
5.Saptamsha: This is to be seen for confirming conception of children and the pleasures derived from having children. The Karaka and the avashtha of the fifth lord of the birth chart and the placement and influences on the fifth house and the fifth lord of the said divisional chart have to be observed.
6.Navamsha:This is the most important horoscope. This is used to see the actual strength of a planet. An exalted planet in the birth chart (if it debilitates in the Navamsha) may not give very good results or its effects can get diluted. However, a planet getting empowered in Navamsha by getting vargottama or by getting exalted will give good results. Apart from this, Navamsha is a horoscope that is used to find out about the spouse of the native. Some secrets of predictive astrology are hidden in the use of this divisional chart. Normally, no prediction should be made without confirming it from the Navamsha. The lord of 64th Navamsha from the Moon becomes highly important for the calculation of Longevity and the Maraka dasa.
7.Dashamsha:This chart is seen generally to get a clear picture of the profession of the native. The placement and avashtha of the tenth lord of the birth chart is important here. Apart from that the rashi rising in the 10th house of this divisional chart and the influence on the 10th house has also to be considered, to judge the profession and any professional growth or fall of the native. Like any other divisional chart this one has to be collaborated with the basic chart.
8.Dwadashamsha:This chart is generally seen for understanding the benefits arising out of parents. Respective longevity of both the parents can be understood from this chart. This chart is also said to reveal the Purva Janma Punya of the native. Here, (as in all divisional charts) the Avashtha of the natural Karaka has to be seen. Here, the Sun represents the father and the Moon represents the mother. Here, the influence on the ninth and the tenth house has to be understood. The Lord of the 88th Dwadashamsha is important in longevity analysis. This chart also is said to reveal whether a person inherits a disease from his parents.
9.Shodhasamsa:This is to see the promise of conveyances for the native and also accidents through conveyances. For this the Karaka for conveyance, Venus, has to be seen. Affliction to the 4th Lord and the 4th house has to be seen along with the affliction of Venus. This can lead to violent accidents if otherwise also promised in the Birth Chart.
10.Vimshamsa:This chart is seen for understanding the spiritual progress of the native. This chart is also said to give a clue with regard to the upasana of the native and the preferred deity of the native. The planet placed in the 5th and the 9th houses are important here. The overall exaltation or debilitation of planets holds a clue to understanding the overall growth of the native spiritually.
11.Chaturvimshamsa:This chart is said to give a finer picture with regard to the education of the individual. The house to be considered is the 5th house. Further, influences on the fifth house have to be seen along with the avashtha of the 5th Lord of the birth chart. The connection of 5th lord with the 6th, 8th and the 12th lord is supposed to bring disturbances and educational change for the native. If however, such planets are under benefic influence the change in education will be for the betterment of the native. Example of this can be that a person does Engineering and then does Management. This constitutes a change technically in astrological term but benefic association makes the change good for the general prosperity of the native.
12.Saptavimshamsha:This chart is seen to understand the general strengths and weaknesses of the native. It can sometimes be used to find the stamina, endurance and physical strength of an individual.
13.Trimshamsha:This chart is generally seen to ascertain the miseries, difficulties and diseases for a particular native. This chart in women horoscopy is also said to show the character of the native. It is said that in case of women if Trimshamsha of Mars is rising she is of questionable character. However, this chart can also be read to verify the character in case of a male native.
14.Khavedamsha:This is generally seen for studying the auspicious and inauspicious effects of horoscope on the native. But, it has to be noted that in prediction this chart cannot be used much as even few seconds of time difference can change the lagna. This should be used only on thoroughly rectified horoscopes.
15.Akshvedamsha:This is seen for ascertaining the character of the native and for general auspicious and inauspicious effect. Here, as in above case this chart becomes too time-sensitive, making it difficult to take it into account while giving prediction.
16.Shastiamsha:Maharishi Parashara has given lots of importance to this chart. This should be seen for every prediction. This chart makes the reading interesting and makes the analysis accurate. However, again the limitation of this is that it can be used on an astrologically rectified chart.
